Hayti, a prominent Black-owned news aggregation app, has expanded its platform to become the largest source of podcasts led by Black hosts. Initially focusing on print and on-air news, Hayti now provides access to over 2,000 Black podcasters. The expansion aligns with the preferences of its target demographic, as many Black podcast listeners seek hosts who resonate with their experiences. Hayti's goal is to provide culturally relevant information and counter misinformation on social media.
Libsyn Announces New Podcast Advertising Rates and Referral Program for May 2023
Libsyn has released its Podcast Advertising Rates for May 2023, which includes high and accessible CPM categories. They have also launched the AdvertiseCast 5x5 Podcast Referral Program, offering a 5% commission on revenue for successful referrals made to AdvertiseCast in the first five months. For May 2023, the average CPM rate remains stable at $23.09 for a 60-second ad spot compared to the previous month.
Whynow and Verbal Diorama Launch Independent Podcast Awards
Whynow and Verbal Diorama have partnered to launch the first Independent Podcast Awards in London. The awards recognize UK-based podcasters who operate independently without financial support from brands. 18 categories, such as True Crime, Sport, Music, and Film & TV, will have winners with an Overall Podcast of the Year selected from these. Podbible is a media partner while Adelicious, Captivate, Overtune, and Pirate sponsor the event. Winners will receive a national award and support services from sponsors to help improve their podcasts.
iHeartMedia Warns Employees Not to Use ChatGPT
iHeartMedia has prohibited its employees from using OpenAI’s ChatGPT on company devices due to the risk of exposing confidential information. However, the media corporation is working on developing its own AI tools for internal use while ensuring that proprietary data is safeguarded. Until then, employees can use third-party AI tools only after receiving clearance from iHeart’s legal and IT teams following a multi-stage approval process.
How Big is the Digital Audio Opportunity? Luma Estimates it at $45 billion
According to Luma Partners, the digital audio market is estimated to have a $45 billion opportunity, despite the gap between ad dollars and consumer usage. The creator economy, especially in podcasting and digital radio, along with the move towards first-party data platforms are expected to boost the sector. Influencer marketing is on the rise and may reach $7.1 billion next year. Ad tech and marketing tech companies show signs of stabilization amidst economic uncertainties, with 95% exceeding their Q1 revenue guidance.
