Acast Goes Public
Acast has launched its initial public offering (IPO) on the Nasdaq North Premier Growth Market. Acastās trading symbol appears as ACAST, which is clear enough. Johan Billgren, co-founder of Acast, says the Nasdaq listing was a bold statement to the world that podcasting is here to stay.
Podcasts Start Coming To Facebook This Week
Facebook will start rolling out its podcast feature on June 22nd. Hosts can link their showās RSS feed up to Facebook, which will then automatically generate News Feed posts for all episodes published moving forward. Eventually, Facebook will add a feature thatāll allow listeners to create clips from their favorite shows and share them on the social network.
Apple Podcast Subscriptions Is Live
Apple Podcast listeners in more than 170 countries and regions can now sign up for premium podcast subscriptions. Listeners will be able to discover channels, which are groups of shows curated by creators with unique titles, descriptions, and artwork. Among the premium offerings, Lantigua Williams & Co., a freshly minted Ambie winner (for Driving the Green Book) and home of the Peabody-nominated 70 Million podcast, will offer a slate of original podcasts, including a first-ever Spanish language one.
Spotify Acquires Podz, A Podcast Discovery Platform
Spotify has acquired Podz, a startup trying to solve the problem of podcast discovery. Podz presents users with 60-second clips from various shows. The company's machine learning model was trained on more than 100,000 hours of audio in consultation with journalists and audio editors. Before its acquisition by Spotify, Podz raised $2.5 million in pre-seed funding.
Sony Music Acquires Somethin' Else, Forms Global Podcast Division
Sony Music Entertainment has acquired Somethinā Else, which touts itself as the U.K.ās largest independent podcast and audio producer, and one of the BBCās biggest independent producers of programs. With the deal, Sony Music is creating a newly expanded global podcast division, headed by Somethinā Elseās two top execs: Steve Ackerman and Jez Nelson. Terms of the acquisition are not being disclosed.

SquadCast Releases v4
During their Breaking Remote Content Barriers webinar, SquadCast announced details about the next version update. Among the many improvements in version 4 are a big integration with Dolby.io, spatial audio, one-click audio mastering, screen sharing up to ten people at once, an updated green room with microphone checks, and many more.

Audioburst is an AI-driven audio search and delivery platform. The company is eager to stream spoken-word audio within mobile apps in categories like fitness, weather, shopping and many others. Audioburst surveyed executives at mobile app companies whose products are used by at least 50,000 daily active users. One major motivation was from business leaders searching for new ways to connect with their employees on the emotional level needed to keep them connected with the business and each other. Another was a desperation to provide alternatives to the Zoom and Teams cultures that sprung up during the last year, but have since caused screen fatigue and in some cases, burnout.
