Vurbl Exits Beta With Launch Of Mobile App
Vurbl announced that it has exited beta with the launch of its mobile app for iOS. Vurbl combines the largest database of public domain audio with massive libraries of educational and non-profit audio content and over a million podcasts, along with the ability for users to upload, stream, curate, share, and snip any audio on the platform.
Sounder Acquires Podnods
Sounder announced the acquisition of Podnods, a leading podcasting discovery and analytics technology. The AI-driven technology from Podnods will be integrated into Sounder, giving creators and listeners worldwide access to state-of-the-art technology. In conjunction with this acquisition, Podnods founder and CEO Mercan Topkara will become Sounder's new CTO, leading the company's new research and development center in New York City.
Apple Launches Affiliate Program For Apple Podcasts Subscriptions
Apple plans to launch the Apple Services Performance Partner Program for Apple Podcasts, a new affiliate program for Apple Podcasts Subscriptions. The partner program will allow podcasters to charge a premium tier to their podcast. When users convert by clicking through one of the links and subscribe to a premium podcast, the partner will receive a one-time commission at 50% of the podcast subscription price. Program participants are required to undergo an approval process to ensure they are qualified to make referrals.
Podiant Joins Castos
Castos announced that they’ve purchased Podiant, a hosting, marketing, and distribution platform along with their founder Mark Steadman. The company has a long history with podcasting, starting with the development of the Seriously Simple Podcasting plugin for WordPress.
‘Dying For Sex’ Named Podcast Of The Year At First-Ever Ambie Awards
The inaugural Ambies honored Dying For Sex, a Wondery series, as Podcast of the Year at their debut ceremony. The six-episode series tells the story of host Nikki Boyer’s decision to end her unhappy marriage and embark on a series of sexual adventures after her best friend is diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer. Spotify Will Auto-transcribe Podcasts Over The Coming Weeks
Podcast transcription is coming to Spotify as a beta feature. Users will be able to read the transcript with or without audio and can tap on text to jump to that point in the audio. The company says the goal is to eventually enable transcripts across all podcasts on its platform. The app will also undergo visual changes, including changes to button colors, text styles, and size. New visual changes are intended to improve accessibility for people with low vision.
